  Older people who are still unfamiliar with personal computers have some unique reasons for wanting to learn.

  "Every time we want to take a trip, we have to go to our children," said Eugene Darrell, 55.

  By learning how to navigate the Internet, using sites like expedia.com and orbitz.com, he and his wife, Shirley Ann Darrell, 53, can make their own airline reservations and pay for the tickets on line.

  After they finish their class at Manatee Technical Institute, their kids won't know they are gone until they get a postcard.

  Frank Horvath, 70, has taught more than 1,000 adults how to use personal computers. He is the computer instructor at MTI, but he is retiring at the end of the school year. A new instructor will take over in September.

 Over the years, Horvath's students have told him, "I wish I'd learned this sooner." ...
